Se7en Review
Made in 1995 the film Se7en takes place in an Unknown City, the storyline is about two two homicide detectives to close the case of a sadistic serial killer who bases his killings on the seven deadly sins: wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony.
Detective William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) plans to leave the City but beforehand is partnered with Detective David Mills (Brad Pitt) for one of the biggest most extraordinary cases he will experience.
At the beginning they investigate a murder of a man who was fed spaghetti until bursting and then kicked in the stomach to bursting point. The two detectives thought this was a one off murder. Another murder takes place with the word greed in blood on the floor, they then find the word Gluttony behind the fridge and link the two murders. This leads to the theoretical idea of the murder being based on the 7 deadly sins. The FBI get into contact with a library to find out who has borrowed a book on the 7 deadly sins, this leads them to a man called John Doe (Kevin Spacey). John Doe gives himself up as he knows he's been cracked, he proposes that if he can take the two deceives to two more bodies he will confess to all 7 murders. John Doe leads them to a place an a man delivers a parcel containing detective David Mills Pregnant wife's head. In pure anger David Mills releases fire at John Doe, which completes the last sin of Wrath.
Seven is a very clever, unsettling and yet gripping thriller film. Right from the beginning where the first murder takes place you can literally feel the tense dark atmosphere in the room, which is present throughout the whole film. Throughout the film is set in dark, rainy places which also makes the film more of a compelling psychological thriller. The film is also very gruesome but only shows one disturbing murder taking place whereas the others are crime scene aftermaths with corpses.
8/10 rating for the gripping, psychological thrilling storyline.
