The film “flightplan” is a psychological thriller about Kyle Pratt an aviation engineer, her recently deceased husband and their daughter Julia. The mother and daughter are flying back into New York with the husbands coffin in the hold. The mother and daughter board the plane, three hours later and 37,000 feet high Kyle wakes up to an empty 26A seat, Julia has disappeared. She begins to panic and frantically searches the plane up and down isles, but none of the passengers, flight attendants or the airport have any record of Julia boarding the plane.
This film is a very successful thriller, the storyline plays on your mind as to wether or not Julia was actually on the plane in the first place. The air marshall who is exceptionally unsympathetic and Gene planned to blow up the plane but with the finger pointed at Kyle. The music throughout is very theatrical and dramatic, their are scenes where you can hear racing heartbeats and fast flowing deep music to emphasize the scene. The dark scenes also create more of a pessimistic and tense atmosphere to wether Julia is on the plane. Kyle Pratt being an aviation engineer helped design the plane, so she knows where every entrance to the hold is. She goes to the bathroom and gets into the electrical area of the plane and releases oxygen masks, the lights flicker and the plane becomes more frantic with people worrying and becoming more distressed minute by minute.
Kyle becomes aware of Gene being the one who kidnapped her daughter races around the hold of the plane in a bid to find her daughter. The race to Julia becomes faster and faster with a very energetic but tense soundtrack of fear and distress.Towards the end she finds Julia in the nose of the plane unconscious with explosives. Gene then races after her and ends up on the nose of the plane but without Julia. Kyle shuts of the nose of the plane and blows up the nose of the plane with Gene in it. The film is very successful at being a thriller because it plays on the minds of not only the pilot and crew but the people actually watching the film. The bereavement of Kyle’s husband makes you question wether or not Julia actually entered the plane or is Julia’s increasingly erratic, panicked behavior caused by the death of both her husband and daughter.
